Description
This sewing pattern, for a sleeve crinoline, is inspired by the elegant silhouette of the 1890s. I’ve crafted this design to solve the issue of my cycling sweaters lacking the desired shape. Drawing inspiration from historical garments showcased in various museums, I’ve created a pattern that not only ensures a flattering and structured fit but also captures the essence of the era.
While initially conceived to address the needs of cycling attire, this sleeve crinoline transcends its original purpose and serves as a versatile option for fashion enthusiasts of the era in general.
Whether you’re looking to embrace the cycling sweater trend or simply captivate the charm of the 1890s, this pattern provides a great foundation for creating historically inspired and sophisticated garments.
Suggested Fabrics:
Please be advised that the fabric suggestions provided are based on the historically materials used, but have also been adapted to accommodate modern fabrics. This ensures suitability for contemporary projects while maintaining the essence of the original designs.
Fabric
In the original instructions for a corset cover, a shirting fabric was recommended. Therefore, I suggest using any light woven fabric for this project. Poplin would be the best-suited option due to its smooth texture and durability.
Metal Boning
For the sleeve support, I recommend metal boning of 0,5 cm (0,2″) width as it offers flexibility in all dimensions. However, a stable metal wire could also be used. It’s important to adjust the boning channels according to the width of the wire to ensure proper shaping.
