Description
This sewing pattern for a corset cover is inspired by the lingerie styles of 1907. I’ve recreated this design based on an original pattern featured in La Mode Illustrée of that year. The result is a pattern that captures the graceful elegance and detail of early 20th-century undergarments.
This pattern offers two variations — a short and a long version — allowing you to tailor your project to your desired style. Whether you’re seeking to recreate an authentic 1907 look or simply appreciate the refined craftsmanship of the era, this corset cover pattern serves as an excellent foundation for your historically inspired wardrobe.
Suggested Fabrics:
Please be advised that the fabric suggestions provided are based on the historically materials used, but have also been adapted to accommodate modern fabrics. This ensures suitability for contemporary projects while maintaining the essence of the original designs.
Fabric
In the original instructions for a corset cover, a shirting fabric or flannel was recommended. Therefore, I suggest using any light woven fabric for this project. Poplin would be the best-suited option for the shirting, due to its smooth texture and durability, while flannel is ideal for the flannel variation. Additionally, you will need lace and buttons to complete the garment.
Skill Level:
Intermediate: Embark on an intermediate sewing journey with this pattern, which offers simplicity alongside the chance to expand your skills. While basic instructions are included, having a sewing book nearby for reference on more intricate techniques is advised. (Check my Skill Levels for more information.) While minimal instructions are provided, I recommend having a sewing book at hand for the more intricate techniques.
